Mug Rugs

These are mug rugs aka coasters.

I was practicing a new technique (well, new to me) to attach binding to a quilt or project of any size. Since it’s easiest to practice on something small, I made these. This technique uses the backing fabric to wrap around to the front and make mitered corners so it finishes nice and tidy.

These were really fun to make. The smaller one, the lace was cut from an embroidered tablecloth that I don’t remember where it came from. The larger one, that linen came from one of my moms tablecloths. Now don’t get upset about me cutting into a family heirloom. Ok, so it is a family heirloom, but I am cutting them up and making them into useful items. This is so much better then leaving it folded in the closet or hope chest and not being used at all. This is also a nice way to share this among family members.
